I really like to use 3D programs, IronCad is the program that I made the current intro with, and then I add graphics, text and other things with basic video editing programs(Windows Movie Maker2, Pinnacle Studio, Video Wave, Web Painter 3). Then I turn the exported frames into a .gif with Web Painter 3, or any other handy converter.

search for MS GIF Animator. It is probably one of the most basic tools, just piece together GIF images and choose the time between each frame. I am using it for my mod when (or if) i get it done.
