Are there any server lists for Internet play?

Its a shame that my server (this one actually) is Windows 2003 "Web Edition". Web Edition means cheap but I am not allowed to host game servers (its a licence thing), bummer.

It would be real nice if somebody could host a Meteor FDS. If anybody does then post it here then we can all play!

A note to server users:
Bare in mind that the Meteor window has to be highlighted all of the time for Meteor (otherwise it stops processing), this is gonna be a problem until I get a text mode version out. Its all about demand.

Well it doesn't matter now.

This time I won't forget it, I tell ya.

Okay, here's the information:

Other players are free to join, but max 4 players.

We'll be playin' on my map, Kill Frenzy.
Each player starts at a swipe card with one of the four colors.
On the other side of the map is a building with locked doors of that color.

In the middle of the map is a CD, guarded by rocket bikes.
In every building is a CD terminal, that opens a building in the middle of the map.
In THAT building is a switch that triggers a bridge that goes to an island on the west side of the map.
On that island is God Mode Shades and a Spreader Cannon.

Got it?
And remember, my IP address is 192.168.0.104

If you have suggestions, I could make last-minute changes to the map.

If you wanna know what UK time it is, edit one of your posts, then look at the time edited.

The IP address 192.168.0.104 is an internal network IP. If your PC is connected directly to the Internet then use the ipconfig command prompt command to obtain your computer's external IP address.

If your gateway is 192.168.0.1 then your PC is on a network connection with a shared Internet connection.

There is a computer or router on 192.168.0.1 which is connected to the Internet. In order to host a Meteor server you will need to forward the TCP port 5910 on your router/Internet PC to 192.168.0.104 on your network.

Once this is done clients would need to enter the external address of your modem/router to connect. If you want to find out your external IP address look here or do the ipconfig thing on your Internet PC (if its a router then ipconfig won't work of course).

Note that your firewall would also need to allow connections on TCP port 5910 (try not to leave this port open for too long, its your call here!).

Hope this all helps.

Sounds like the IP is right but I can't connect to that address. Either the routing is not working or the firewall is blocking access (perhaps intentionally).

The problem is quite fundamental being that Meteor uses TCP and not UDP so its very slow over non-LAN connections.

I do plan to sort this out by switching to UDP although this post may confuse you a little.

Simple, To play a multiplayer game, you have 2 options. You can join someone elses game, ask them for their IP adress and ask them when they will be playing. Type in their IP adress when your opponent wants to play. It may take you some minutes to get in the game. At this point you are in the game.

To Host a game, Tell your friends the time you will be playing and your IP adress (BTW: You can find out your IP adress by checking your Internet Connection settings if you dont already know)Play your game alone for about a half hour (Not that fun yet) But evantually your friends will join. It could take a while for them to get on, If they join late or have a slow connection. Then you can go around and find out who is the best at playing meteor. (That's the fun part.)

The Guidlines should be on the Meteor Contests page(meteormods.com) on Monday 3-7-05 1:00pm CST.

just incase you want to start early, make sure the map is 100X100 tiles, and suitible for 2 or 4 players.
