What about making it so when you press the S key it launches a small shield that stops bullets and cuts down the damage of other weapons. But have so you can change the shield sprite. Or a gun that launches solid objects

If I'm not mistaken their is already a thread about this one. I know I started it but I forget what thread it is.

Anyway Shielding would be great, lets say for an enemy, but the shelid should be breakable and have a limited amount of time to use. You could program this by making a scropt code that turns the player invincible but that would be to much like god mode.

maybe not the S button, I use the WASD keys for movement instead of arrow keys. how about Q? thats the little button that doesnt fit into anywhere.

I don't know who uses the arrow keys...but I recommend WASD because you have easier access to E and L.

to be honest i really dont care about sheilds much though, is the game so hard that you really need a shield? the closest thing to a sheild is a vehicle. Just make objects that you can enter but cant move that has health. Call it a bomb shelter or something. It will protect but you cant fire from inside it.

In the current beta, shields are a value set in the object type editor. They act as simply more health to a unit, and are intended to make the difference between vehicles and people (where you give the vehicle all the 'armor'). For example, if you emptied a clip on a MP5 at a person, they would die. If you let 'er loose on a vehicle though, it probably wouldn't instantly explode.

Well... those arn't "shields", thats just an armor rating for the vehicle, or how resistant it is to bullets/other projectiles.

Think of shields as a god mode device that can be used at enemy time in expense for energy. Also these would apply for enemy units which is the real thing that makes sheilds vaulable. With shields you would have to wait until a boss was out of energy or time and then you would be able to shoot and damage him. I actually planned a boss like that might without shields I might not be able to make the boss exactly like I planned.

Instead of shields, how about the ability for the main character to heal if a human. I mean naturally heal. Though, it would be extremely slow, like 1HP ever 3 seconds

Actually that would be a good idea all alone, but it would be even nicer if you could change the healing rate, so you could advance your characters healing rates as he goes on in levels. But I still think there should be shields.
