OK James, what is the current progress of M3? XD What parts are done, what parts aren't done? Or is the game complete but there are still some critical bugs? Please give a detailed description and a '% done'. Thank you!

Sounds cool about it being 3D, especially after seeing the ROD 3D preview. But I have no experience with 3D modelling, so I'm not sure how difficult editing and making new objects or whatever will be. How difficult is 3D modelling and can you download a program for free that will do it? EDIT: Wait, hang on--will Solidworks do it? I think (or hope) it will support both 2D and 3D files. I ever attempted to create a 3D image with milkshape and... it was BAD =P EDIT: Of course, you can also just import a 2D image in a 3D file.

... and that the graphics of a fan-made mod will probably be more ugly and cube-ish. But I'm sure you can import 2D graphics in Milkshape, so it will be 3D files which look like 2D files. The game will look like GTA then: 3D environment and 2D sprites =D

There are a lot of them, like for example Blender. Ofc, you can also google for 'free 3D modelling' or so, ... But I know that there are really a lot of free alternatives and I recommend 'Blender'.

OMG GMAX IS FREE! They created it as a free, cut-down version of 3dsmax. Download link http://www.game-maps.net/index.php?action=file&id=530 Registering bypass. You don't have to pay for Gmax, this is just so they can get hold of your email address. As far as I know its legal. Before you start spamming here about ''OMG P1RA73'' please note that Gmax is free-ware! Also note the Disclaimer with the download at the link. http://www.game-maps.net/index.php?action=file&id=685 Oh and Mrazerty, please learn the ''Editable-mesh modifier''. I'm sorry to say this (and sorry if you are offended) but just a hunk of preset shapes is 3D work of a 8yr old. here's a tut for you to get started. http://www.renhelp.net/index.php?mod=Tutorials&action=view&id=21 just stop at the part where he detaches the mesh as cliffs. After that it gets into parts where you need C&C renegade and the Renx extension for Gmax. You probably don't want to model for Renegade anyway. When the tutorial asks you to select all of the edges around the plane, press this button (attached image)

ROD and Meteor 3 = same basic engine (M3 looks nicer but the code is common). Rod 2 almost there but the more time spent on Rod, the less on M3. They are essentially the same development. You need to login to create posts in this thread. |

You know, first person mode (Perspective from Ash's eyes) with mouse aim for Meteor 3 would be downright AWESOME. You'll reach a much bigger population with it too.

Sorry I mean Rod 3D and not Rod 2. Rod 3D contains some "experimental" FPS code which I was playing with last weekend. Basically its all about performance and projectile heights (up/down firing angles). When you aim at a helicopter in Rod 3D (even in overhead mode) the projectile will go upwards towards the aircraft visually speaking. However contact and damage is currently appied to a 2D area. I will experimenting with "height restricted" contact and damage soon. This would be nice as I sometimes fire rockets at ground units and hit a bird or something that I can't even see. Armed with angled projectiles FPS mode becomes possible with mouse aiming. Whether it will feature depends on how well it works technically and whether or not it just ruins the game. However the larger audience and the fact that it looks nicer can n ot be ignored. Performance can be tricky as there is more to draw in FPS mode because you can see further (it culls off-screen stuff along the view planes). A shorter view distance and fog may come to the rescue there. You need to login to create posts in this thread. |

Hey...I just noticed that you can also see the barrel of a minigun turret sticking out from under the chinook in that picture. Well, yet again, people are talking about how great M3 will be when it's released. The only question is when--so I pose (again) the question: How close is M3 to beta-testing? We haven't heard from James in a while, hopefully that means he's been busy with M3. James, where are you...? SPEAK TO US! You need to login to create posts in this thread. |

Well, Arezey told me on IRC that James was also silent for a month or so just before he released M2... Maybe this is a good sign? =)

I think he's going to finish ROD3D first.

Even that would be good, Rod3D'll be a great game when it's finished. And I think James said that since it uses the same engine as M3, once Rod3D is released, M3 won't be far behind. You need to login to create posts in this thread. |

Yeah I think it'll be just Rod3D, only with sectors, some more features and an improved 1st person view. And hopefully, elevation!

Well what we got to know yesterday is that M3 will be MP and that if it comes 3D it should support elevation. You need to login to create posts in this thread. |

@Naval War Well I've noticed that Dark Rain's post count and mine are almost ALWAYS the same. =) Oh and about the resolution thing: Can't you just go to configuration screen and change your resolution?

@Naval War I assume you just changed the resolution of Meteor 2, I actually meant your computer itself.
