I guess it's like while James worked on M3, he came up a nice idea that he can code into M1 as well, so now M1 is v1.40 due to that.

The new Meteor 1 will probably make an appearance later in the year as it it not top priority. In a nutshell older games are being used to test new code. Eventually they will all be updated. The next game release will most likely be a new version of Go For It which has been used heavily to test the new rendering and window handling code (timescale: about a 1 week). After that there may be a GFI2 which is designed to test general 3D rendering and the new network code (timescale: 3 to 6 weeks depending on brick wall hitting). GFI2 may be postponed. GFI has always just been a test game and was only released for feedback and general interest. Meteor 3 is going undergoing a redesign (in terms of terrain) and it happening alongside the above. The idea is to replace terrain "sectors" with smoothed out (rounded) voxels. Free drawing of structures using sectors may remain. This will make level designing far more productive and produce vastly improved visuals. The Bullet physics system works well but shadow rendering is proving difficult. Actually it used to be a lib but is now just included code because it can be easily updated on the fly and debugged more effectively. It is much easier and more productive this way. It is a collection of classes and namespaces, each of these can be included as required. You need to login to create posts in this thread. |
