Red is blue.
- Cute is attractive, cats are cute => Zombies are 1337 gamers.
- 7116 divided by 0 is impossible => If you win the lottery, a comet will crash into you.
- 34 * 854 / (log(0.1) * sin(45^90)) * 195 + 1 is not equal to 7 => From the perspective of the universe, everything that doesn't have a size of infinity has a size of 0.
- Void has no size => 1 = 2. Don't ask me why, it needs some research.

And now, the epic climax:

- :-O:-O

Not too shabby. The layout is pretty good, utilizes all 4 swipe cards, as well as activating bridges and deactivating force fields. I like it. I kinda wish it was a little harder though, I completed the whole thing without getting shot even once. But I guess it's not easy to make a hard M1 map.

Yeah I see the Jap ads too. I'm pretty sure what ads are placed in the forums are reminiscent of the content of the thread. I remember Erik's paintball mod advertising paintball gear. Maybe it's due to your (and Petix') signatures?

Lately I've been lurking around the "Game Maker 7" community, hoping to find someone to help me make a PC version of the game Contra, with a map editor.

To my dismay, no one has offered to help. Making games completely from scratch is a little too overwhelming for me. I've been hoping to find someone who would do all the programming, while I do all the graphics. (Which I am more than willing to do.)

I figured it's common noob traits to sign up to the forums and on first post go "Hey I got this awesome game idea but I need lots of people to help me do it!!!" I lurked around the forums and found a few WIP games that need sprite artists. It would probably be best that I get some respect by helping people with their games. Currently I'm the sprite guy for a PC Castlevania clone. I'm hoping if I do the sprites for him, he maybe interested in making the Contra game idea I had come to life. A I-scratch-your-back-you-scratch-mine type thing.

Attached is a sprite sheet I made for the contra game I want to make. (I still need to make the wall climbing graphics and ceiling shimmy graphics)

Also attached is the sprite sheet I'm working on for the Castlevania game. His name is Lucius. He's a vampire slayer.

I know what that feels like. I've got the funny idea of making a ZDoomish arcade engine (object-orient scripted actors, archive-based 'WAD's which would define the game, ...) but such is an overwhelming thing to do by myself..

Why? Should I be focusing on a different community? I played the pre-beta version of the guy's castlevania game and it seems to do a lot of what I'd like my 'contra' game to do.

I just want some simple things.

I made a forum topic about it that was very specific about how I want the game to work. Apparently I was wasting my time because since then (which was about 5 days ago) there's like 20 more threads above it.

Bah, I just don't like Game Maker personally.
It's too "Click here to make this program generate a game"-ish for me. It's for people who are good at game resources and not at programming.
Conclusion: Definitely
But heh after all JBGames is pretty much a modding community so technically I'm not really at home here anyway. So good luck with your project, though it would be a disaster if I'd join it :D

EDIT: Oh and plus, Game Maker is made in The Netherlands, which is next to (and had a huge influence on) Belgium. *cough*.

I've written about 3K lines (ahhh scary) for mods of meteor 2.

You can really use meteor 2 to make your own game, if you generally already like the engine.

Yeah you really can. (as Me, Parasait, and Arezey are already in the process of)

I'd like to create a contra-like game for meteor but I really prefer the side scrolling, only 8 directions to shoot in, and jumping aspect of it. And it doesn't appear that Meteor 2 can do a whole lot as far as designing weird but predictable attack patterns that are fairly easy to dodge that enemies can use. I can think of some useful Contra styled attack patterns such as shooting 3 rockets at the same time with a wide spray factor, or enemies that shoot projectiles in bursts using clip reloads, etc.

Contra is full of boss battles with unique attacks, and at some point once I start making the 3rd or 4th boss, I'd have pulled just about every possible predictable attack I can think of.

I'd like to have things like:

Enemies that can only shoot at certain angles
Enemies with multiple attacks that fire in sequences, not all at the same time
Enemies with extremely unfair attacks, but are visibly charging up the attack as a blatant warning
Varying other ways to depict warnings of what the enemy will do. So far, Meteor just makes the sprite point at it's target
Enemies that directly try to run you over
Homing missiles with wide turning circles
Projectiles that move in wavy or swirly or zig zagging patterns,

Granted some of these can be done but not without a lot of scripting work and testing. And allowing for gravity to turn meteor into a side scroller is pretty close to impossible. (Unless there maybe some way to turn the whole map into a conveyor belt and hide it somehow, hmm. Maybe I should look into that)

True.
That mod isn't even going to be a TC, it's a seperate *game* which just uses the most important features of Meteor 2 such as movement, attacking and basic AI.
It is thanks to 1) Meteor 2 engine's simplicity and 2) The scripting system which allows you to directly control almost every feature, that things like Zombies! is made possible.
I'm going to need a lot of coffee Rhum to script the whole thing, but hey at least I don't have to waste time on the very basic parts of the program (^^,) That's mainly why I like M2 so much.
