It's about time JBGames has an 'Off-topic' section so we can talk about something other than JBgames once in a while :)

What are some of the first games you ever played? When I was first introduced to video games, I played games from the Sega Genesis such as Road Rash, Shinobi, and Paperboy. My brother later got a shareware version of Doom on a floppy disk from a friend of his. That was one of the first games I ever got into.

Anyone else remember some of the first games they ever played?

i was about 5 years old when i fisrt played on a really old video game stuff (something like a console but with built in games)
though it was more than 15 years ago so idont remember anything about that..
then we had an enterprise 128k which works witth cassete tapes..
there were some quite good games for that (with awesome graphics =)
some of those were: dizzy, bruce lee, magic pinball, chase hq, batman, nebulus, last ninja, a star wars game (dunno its name), and many others.. cant remember them too..
then we have an xt (which is a pc) and there was my bgi favourite for that time north and south.. cant really name any other thing
few years later we bought a 386 which runs doom, quake, wolfeinstein and the other 'modern' games..

Well, I'm a bit younger than you guys, so my first was the N64.
Oh, and my dad had a WWII submarine simulation game on the computer (we had, like, Windows 3.0 or something) called 'Silent Service II', that got a lot of use.

The first game I *ever* played, but really the very very first game, was original Prince of Persia. After that I played the Commander Keen series, Lemmings, and when I was a bit older I also played Flight Simulator '98. I all played them on a computer my dad had when he was around 18 years (He's 40 now)!

Yeah... those were the good ol' times...

BTW: It is thanks to these games, which I played for like years, I don't really like modern games! I was so used to these oldies, that now I'm still a pure retro-gamer =)
... And the old computer is still intact! I can't believe it still works as good as many years ago. But I'm really happy about that, because reviving those good memories is simply awesome! And I also noticed that I'm still as good as when I was a child ^_^

This link is dead. It's only still here because, err... yknow, it's some sort of... memorial.

My grandpa still has Prince of Persia on his computer, it's displayed in only 4 colors, Black, White, Cyan, and Pink. That game was pretty nice for its time, it had very realistic animations.

I dont really hate modern games, it used to be a common thing that games have super realistic graphics and stuff and the developers forget about how welll the game will play in the end. Lately a lot of modern games have been pretty fun to play. There still is the occasional game that gets really hyped up and everyone looks forward to it then it ends up being crap.

For example, every sequel to Halo was terrible IMO. I dont think anything will beat the unique atmosphere that was the original, and it still has the best multiplayer of all 3 games. Another example would be Grand Theft Auto 4. Many people like that game but I hate it. The gameplay seems very slow paced, it seemed like the character would simply take his sweet time to do anything, even in life threatening situations. It was neat to watch during casual moments, but when I needed to move, I couldnt bear to watching the guy act like nothing was happening. I think some game developers fail to test their games before the final release.

I always make sure I spend the last couple days before I release my mods just playing through the game making sure there were no bugs, and that it was fun. If there are bugs and the mod is not fun, then the release date will be delayed until its perfect.
