I am planning to make a Halo 2 Meteor 2 mod. I have been working at it already for about two months and I have been recording sound effects and taking top-view shots of the Warthog, Ghost, and Banshee.
Halo 2: Meteor 2 (H2M2) will include all of the weapons from Halo 2 except the Beam Rifle (AKA Covenant Sniper) because I can't think of any way to make a purple glowing line.
My goal is to make this mod as close as possible to Halo 2. I really have no idea about when it will be done, but once I get most of the objects and maps done, I'll post a date and submit it to Meteormods.com.

I knew this would happen. My friend wanted me to make this mod but it would be too much wasted effort being the fact that I don't have the game to copy from. Yet, I support your mod all the way and I'd dl it the first day its done.

I do have several sfx too, I have the battle rifle, frag grenade, SMG, bashing sounds (you probably won't need that) LAAG (Warthogs mounted gun) I may have more but can't think of any at the moment.

It would be hard to match Halo though, The weapons have special qualities that make them different from each other in ways M2 can't match. Like the neadler for example (It shoots little crystals that stick to people, then explode, for those who havent played Halo) Not to mention grenades and how the game doesnt have any real "health" only you can survive a short amount of shots until you die when your shield won't recharge.
All I am saying is that it would be complicated.

I'm aware it would be complicated but I'm only making it as close as possible. Here's some weapons I have so far:

<b>Human</b>
-Pistol
-SMG
-Battle Rifle
-Sniper Rifle
-Rocket Launcher
-Shotgun: Probably not going to be included unless the final version of M2 has a spray option.
-LAAG warthog
-M68 Gauss warthog

All of the above are easy and simple to create with M2 now.

<b>Covenant</b>
-Plasma Pistol: If the charge up idea is included with M2 eventually, it will use that if not it's just a weak, simple plasma gun.
-Plasma Rifle: Rapid plasma gun
-Needler: Rapid plasma gun (can't stick or home)
-Particle Beam Rifle, Carbine: Not included, wouldn't be realiztic enough.
-Brute Shot: Grenade Launcher
-Sentinal Beam: Extremely fast fire rate, with long red glowing projectiles, extremely fast, each projectile does little damage.

<b>Vehicles</b>
-Ghost: hovercraft with dual plasma cannons, no rotating turrets
-Banshee: plane with dual plasma cannons, no rotating turrets
-LAAG Warthog: vehicle with LAAG rotating turret
-Gauss Warthog: vehicle with Gauss rotating cannon (very fast shell)
-Scorpion Tank: tank with roatating cannon
-Wraith: Hovercraft with lots of armor, nonrotation cannon

Not included:
Shadow
Spectre

WOW thats very well done. It looks almost as if its a real beam weapon (as in its not shot like a projectile is).

Might I comment on the banshees/ghosts (cant rember lol :D), they look almost right from the game.

Your pretty good at making graphics, although the player sprite could be done alittle less one-colored/circular and more blocky (as thier suits arnt anywhere near close to having rounded edges).

I have an idea for a beam like weapon... how about for the sprite, it would be an EXTREMELY thin and small red line.. barly noticable, but the "beam" would just be a bunch of elipsle lighting on one projectile, and when you fire the gun it fires at high ROFs, and looks almost like a red laser show :D

Thanks assasian, the beam in the screenshot was taken about 20 seconds after I made the first 'try' of it, as you notice, the hud is the top down view (because I can't figure out how to enable the sentinal beam as the weapons on map in H2)

More screens on the way!

PS The ROF in the screen is 50 and the problem is the higher the ROF, the farher spaced the projs are

Wow this mod seems like its comming underway pretty well! I suggest you wait for M2 released, before you make your maps unless you dont mind redoing them for the M2 changes :)

Thanks, and yeah, I will wait for the final version of M2 to come out before making maps (the sectors are <i>still</i> indestructible), although I did try making a ship map, but I need more units now.

Don't worry too much about the map thing, any changes required are generally very minor.

So far I have noticed about 4 sectors being slightly changed in shape (like a corner cut off or something) during the entire SP campaign.

That first screen shot looks very nice, I am still waiting for the others to load lol.

One plus for you is that you will be able to ride <b>on</b> vehicles as well as in them. There may a limit of one player per ride on vehicle though.

The other images have loaded now, very nice weapons and the tanks (whatever) look great too. I bet you are glad that I took the time to code up rotating turrets support lol.

Well, right now I'm kinda mad at ImgHst.com for deleting my account and replacing all my images with an "EMPporn" ad, sorry for this, as I will have to use the previous hosting services.

Also, what does the "target" value set in game.ini? If they're shooting at you?

PS. Yes I'm very glad you put in rotating turrets James, makes the warthogs look very realistic!

"target" means that side will not be shot at by the other sides. It also means that they don't shoot anyone else.

Basically its for neutral sides.

Map Info

H2M2 will not have halo 2-authentic maps, or even maps along the lines it. I plan to make this a separate version of Halo 2, with the same weapons.

That being said,


I'm just about finished with the first level, it will take place at the edge of some mountains in which you will infiltrate and find out what happened to Capt. Key's daughter who was captured and your team has reason to believe she's being held in these mountains.

As disappointing as it is, I have decided to remove the sentinal beam and shotgun from the game <u><b>UNLESS</b></u> the final version of M2 has a shotgun spray mode and/or a faster projectile fire rate.

<b>Map Updates</b>
The first map is done for H2M2. It's the one I asked the scripting question about and I'm picking up C pretty well (the syntax is so FINICKY and CONFUSING lol!!!)
It takes place in the mountains as I said, with some new textures that i pulled right from H2. Basically, its just weaving your way through hills taking down covenant and watching marines do their job too. This map is very similar to Delta Halo.

<b>AI Updates</b>
So far I only have 6 covenant because the grunts and jackals are EXTREMELY hard to capture at a top view. The list so far is:

Those vehicles and weapons are kickass! Ive had soundfx for a while but i was grounded and couldnt email them for a while, but I hope you don't have 'all' the soundfx I'm emailing. That brute shot in the first preview looks familiar, did you take that from a Halo2 mod for soldat? What is your mail adress anyway? and do you have sfx for the plasma rifle and covenant carbine? I'd like to have them.

Lets see, two maps have been completed so far, and I'm working on my third. Actually for now I'm going to wait for the final version of M2 before I finish the thrid map. I think it will be much easier to create when M2 is finished.

In fact, yes. As far the resemblance to halo 2's maps go, campaign would be way too hard to replicate...instead multiplayer will flourish with similar maps to the real Halo 2.

So definately, I think mulitplayer will turn out pretty well.

I did edit the explosion's lighting once and it looked very neat, although i decided to just leave it be, as you couldnt really tell the diference when you actually saw them in game (things happened too fast), OR, it didnt look good with the bullet shots. WHCIH REMINDS ME: See the thread about bullet projectiles in Suggestions I just made!

The freakish orange and black scrollbar I thought was overdoing it a bit, but the site looks decent anyway.

Oh and I think the scrollbar scripting had messed up the rest of the page with freewebs.

Campaign

The single player mode is about 1/3 done (the maps and scripting). The first estimated date I'll lay down for completion of single player might be sometime in July.
