The word "Meteor" was the name of the satilitte that was supposed to destory the world in the orginal game story. That's were the name comes from.

The Meteor Defense System (Otherwise known as the MDS) is an orbital ion cannon that protects the Earth from meteors and other large objects flying though space. Its deadly secret is that this device was in fact built to take out ground targets, for example any major city could be destroyed in seconds once the cannon is in position.

cool, maybe we could see it in action through scripts n' stuff.
Maybe not explicitly; but some camera shakes, rumbling, and teleport to a "ruined" area after the screen goes black.

Hmmm. Maybe I'll give you a bit of a hint. Read the Meteor2 Story, and think about the possible connections with space based platforms. The meteor Cannon was not destroyed, and it is still in operation today. However, GNV is possibly testing large spacecraft that could possibly have the capability ro destroy the meteor cannon. To prevent another hostile takeover, the Meteor cannon is internally guarded, and has a few external deferces. These defences would not be able to combat with basically anything, but the public is told that they will prevent another hostile takeover. Agent Cooper is helping track GNV activities, and says that the Tests were not from Gnv but actually a sattlite radio launch. He has also informed us that GNV is lacking in the technology that is needed to complete manned spaceflight.

Interesting. I really like the M2 story. I did manage to get a glimpse of the Huge Ship that should destroy the MDS. It looks pretty crazy.

Internally guarded space platforms bring to mind good ol' space sectors, drifting from platform to platform, gravity fields, rocket packs, and bungee-guns ("bungee gun" is (c)2004 Jim Sinha).

Where did you guys see the HUGE SHIP and the M2 story?

I think that your right. I checked around, and was not able to find it in and of my 2 older meteor2 games. Maybe we can get it posted somewhere on the website by JB. It was interesting. And i must say that I do remember it saying some things about GNV wanting to test somthing in space, although im not sure what that is. Have any of you completed my mod, Meteor: Afghanistan?

2 questions me_mantis:

1. What program are you using to create these (the plane, the MDS, ect)?

2. It would look better if it was textured ^_^! (ok so not really a question lol)

I like it, the what i think solar panels look pretty cool :D.

#.1. Yes, the guards on the MDS have a very nice reception with over 1000 television channels, and of course, t3 beamed straight to them 24/7. Thats how they can play fun games like Meteor with people on earth.

#1. This is a tough question, because, the only program i used to make both, was windows XP. For the c-130 I used IronCad (ironcad.com), and for the MDS, I used 3DSmax. I still like Iron cad better than 3ds though, because its got a way better renderer, and the raytracing is super easy and powerful. 3Ds has not changed much since its second version, but IronCad has.

#2. It is textured ô_ô, although it was not textured with a ver 'seeable' texture. I am working on fixing its texturing, and pathetic shape right now. Ill post a newer image every monday and wednesday. If you dislike its appearence, or think that im missing somthing cool(telescope, robotic arm, your name=P etc), tell me and ill slap it on for you. One of the hardest things about 3D design is that you have to have ideas for everything you make.

Ahh yes... have you considered making an ACUTAL (lol) intro for M2 with your 3D editors? Like a 30 sec to 1 min video out of your 3d stuff showing some heat o' the battle or a story ^_^.

well, How about the current intro? I made it and its 3D. I am probably going to make one though, because all the 3D looking meteor2 units and still 3D models, and i can animate them. I already have some movies of the MDS system in action.

Is there a meteormods.com picture archive?

In the 3D M2 intro, if there is any text in the background,
such as a warroom main display or a satellite console,
scroll notable posts from this forum.

There is currently not a meteormods.com pic archive, but I do still have all the pictures that i posted on my computer. Was there somthing that you would like to see again, or get a copy of? I usually post low res 640X480 .jpg s so the page will load faster, but i can usually render the 3D pictures in much higher resolution.

As for the computer scrolling text, I think that thats a great idea. Just don't expect to see your nice little picture on there. =)

I only recently became interested in the pictures,
so I've missed a lot.
