Heh oh well, maps can be recreated, MODs can be redownloaded; the important thing is that no one was hurt! LOL! :p

funny how so many of us are having trouble with our computers, I have been gone since August and havent come back with a new computer till Late December

EDIT:

But the good thing about losing maps is that the recreation of your maps are normally better. That happened a long time ago when my little brother saved maps over Base Alpha and The Village. (My new Base Alpha soon grew into what is now Base Epsilon in my Meteor-WW3 Mod, except it has snow)

My computer is not broken, and I still want to get a new one, but im am trying hard to find one that is faster. My current computer an AMD XP 2400 loads games faster than my friends AMD 64 3200 and my Brothers Intel P4 w/HT 3.0.
What happened to your computer?

Me_Mantis: That's obvious why though.... You've got an AMD, your bro's got an Intel.... 'Nuff said.

What exactly happened to your computer? Do you happen to be have problems like me, where they are so complicated, they need system reloading?
You still may be able to get files off of your hard drive, and put them on a new one, even if the rest of your computer is dead.

Well, when the PC turns on it says
"A disk read error occured. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to reboot"

A friend looked at it and said reinstalling Windows from a recovery disk would work. I have heard from the internet that Knoppix (Linux) is good. Maybe Ontrack could get something back ???

I don't know that you could get Meteor 2 to work on a Linux-type system, so I'd think you'd better use windows.

About my "slow" computer, there's only one game that loads more slowly than my brother's, and I can render movies much faster.

I now have several quotes, but my piggy-bank is empty. Will someone give me several hundred pounds? Anyone? Fine.....

I am just going to check if there might be a few pennies down the side of the couch. If only someone left lots of £50 notes lying down the high street.

Got PC to work...
... at the expense of my data.

I have several hours (or maybe even days) of downloading to do,
e.g. Meteor 1, Meteor 2 beta and all the mods.

You mean you don't keep triple backups of the Meteor games, guides, concept art, and forum database?

Yes the solution is to put a crappy old PC in the corner and bung a network card in it. Then you have instant network storage allowing you to totally mess up your PC without effecting your data.

True. If those filters were gone, Assain wouldn't of been able to point that out.

True True, if those were fixed who would then appoint me as the all-knowing wise man?
