I got good stuff this year! Lessons-Learned Section: 1. Learning Debian OS is currently a waste of my time. 2. Corporations are evil. Corruption hurts the world. 3. I need to achieve stuff. Material Section: 1. Japanese Buffet trip. YUM! 2. Clothes -> straight to charity Edited: 27 December 2006 05:41 You need to login to create posts in this thread. |

Looks like i have to get a life now. My dad installed some security software on the family computer that takes up what was left of the procesing power. The computer's bad in the first place, now I don't think i'll even be able to load up m2 anymore. You need to login to create posts in this thread. |

security "suites" tend to gum things up. I use windows firewall for port control, Norton antivirus (antivirus-only version), and SpyBot Search&Destroy for everything else. You could try disabling it before playing M2 and enabling it afterwards. You need to login to create posts in this thread. |

I got win firewall, spybot s&d, and something called McAfee Security Center for viruses. I can't find the off switch either. You need to login to create posts in this thread. |

Oh and I use AVG Network Edition because it is very good and really well priced (I also have a bulk license for all these damn computers (and web servers) that are laying about. AVG AV = Yay (free edition or paid, excellent VFM, half price renewals) [great] - AVG Firewall = pants (not very configurable) Norton = PC slow down, too much clutter with NIS package (paid) - [well, if you like that sort of thing] McAffee = PC stop, clutter alert, no really its pants, the interface is dodgey/for grandads (paid) - [toy] Ad-Aware = Yay (free for personal) [5 stars] Spybot = Yay (free) [top marks] Clamwin AV = no resident sheild (really really really serious flaw) and sloooooooow scans (litterally takes all day to scan a PC when AVG takes minutes) but its free - [well its free] Windows firewall = yay (clunky but effective) [free, bundled and highly configurable] ZoneAlarm = yay but a little in yer face "buy pro - buy pro - buy pro - buy pro - buy pro - buy pro - buy pro - buy pro - buy pro" - [toy] Blackice PC Protection = The ultimate SW firewall for serious protection unlike the "toy" firewalls above! Inbound is great, outbound has full on AP, fully configurable (paid) - [for the pros] Router NAT with DMZ and few port or no redirects = great inbound proection, no outbound AP [common sense, direct connect at your peril] Hardware firewall = oh yes but AP is not really an option [pros, more affordable than you may think] Notes - Pros = professionals - Ratings may be totally unfair & not reflect the products capabilities - In some cases ratings may be low due to amazingly crap interfaces. - Who cares what I think anyway?
