Love split screen... Especially in Serious Sam, where you can play EIGHT on the same computer! :O

I think that 2player split screen would be cool, but it would NOT work at all.(I wish it would though)
#1 you need 9 keys to play.
#2 You need a mouse to play -- not just for aiming, but also for clicking stuff.
#3 This game will have net support, so have a lan party.

I think this would be cool, but unless you had 2 mice it wouldn't really work.

Then get another mouse! Who can live with just a single mouse? The keys could be the regular ones (WASD and so forth), and numpad for player two, just like nearly every other splitscreen game.

That wouldnt work, an OS/computer can only handle 1 mouse running at the same time ;)

as I well know... I have 2 mice and 3 keyboards =D

The multiple keyboards are really nice for split games, but as meteor 2 has mp we really don't need to tourture ourselves with no aiming.

Yes the mouse thing is real bummer. I can't see a way around this one so it looks like a show stopper.

yeah, im not too much of a fan of split screen, not to mention that my laptop doesnt even include a numpad!

And if you do a search, i believe there is another thread with this same idea.

Imperfect and probably not worth it for this version of Meteor:

use openGL's nice hardware scaling features so that everyone's view area represents 800x600 roughly. I still think a square area (with map / stats down the side) 600x600 would be better because the gameplay would be the same N/S & E/W.

Control: up to eight 4-button usb digital gamepads. That's a maximum 3x3 grid of players, including the kb+mouse guy. Just like the brady bunch except with a minimap, stats, and weapons down the side (or cutting vertically through the middle).

button 1: shoot
button 2: AIM MODE: player continues to move in the same direction before aim mode is pressed. Player may press shoot while in aim mode. Not sure if aim mode should toggle when hit or be active only when pressed (maybe with a menu option). A toggle would be like a gunfighter with a clutch.
button 3: enter/exit, follow/guard
button 4: hold for weapon select mode (use d-pad to select)

if lan play is included, (drool), redundant data could be eliminated because groups of players would be sharing the same data. Oh so complex

Nice Idea!
You could use 1 joystick to aim, and one to move.
Could meteor2 have split screen with 2 monitors? This way you could all have a nice sized screen.

You can't keep tugging your computer over to somebody's house, just to play M2 CoOp.

I guess there could be 3 configurations:

1: 4-button gamepad / joystick with AIM MODE toggling
2: microsoft sidewinder / 8 button joystick (4 buttons are used for movement)
3: dual joystick mode

I agree that this wouldn't be good for M2. This would be better suited for something with hardware image scaling.

Two monitors? Cool, but I don't think many people use multiple monitors. (programming for multiple displays is a bit of a chore)

Ya I gots 2 monitors, and I would have 3, but I have another computer on the same desk =D

I cannot oficially conmment on meteor2 being multiplayer, but I can say that it wouldn't be too hard considering all the new coding for meteor 1.

LOL...
you have provieded a lot of nice code examples, but I'm supprised you said that =P

Meteor 2 uses a ton of new features that meteor 1 did not have mainly Vehicles, sectors, waypoints, scripting and CD.

The first step will be cut & paste, but there is a ton more code needed.

Cut and paste? Nooooo, M2 has an all new network packet layer.

Network MP will go ahead, that is not in question. It will feature in the next release.

Then, why you just all shut up about the mice and use the keyboard? I use it and the game is as fun as whit the mice.

We know DRL, we are aware that it is not required to have a mouse to play, but the game is so frustrating with out it.

I know it`s easyer the mice controls, but if we want splitscreen, we need to use the keayboard.
And maybe the player`s may use the mice when it`s in their screen?

E.G.: If player 2 screen player 2 will use it, and vice versa whit player 1.

Its funny how the spilt screen thing always resurfaces every now and again.

Its not all bad news for SS fans but I will present that first.

<b>The Bad News</b>
There are no plans to make M2 split screen because the game is simply not geared up for it on a technical basis.

<b>The Good News</b>
However if you could redefine the keys (and use a custom config file using the Mod Manager launcher) then you could actually run 2 M2 sessions on one computer (each in a custom size window). Then you just play a network game where "player 2" connects to "localhost".

I can't be entirely sure whether this will work as one window would need to be inactive. However M2 can support running in the background (I am specifically worried about key input).

Anyway if we can make the keys/mouse clicks go to both intances of M2 then it might work? I guess the menus could be funny (you would need to use the mouse?).

Basically I would need to add a couple of new features to try this out being...

- Redefinable keys
- Custom config file support via the command line
- A new command line switch, say "-RunInBackground"

Remember that you can type screen resolutions into the config file already and run in any res!

Perhaps this is a crazy idea?

That actually sounds kinda neat. But you can use the directional keys and enter, and ESC for the main menu, the mouse isn't required for that. Though the keys would possibly affect both games.

Is it possible to run M1 in windowed mode?

Maybe we don't need the mouse. All you would need are some keys to move around, shoot, and switch weapons. It should be left with very few do able things to promote online play yet still allow offline play.
