You should be able to give your allies simple commands, making them more of a use and making them having a less possible chance of death.

Examples such as:

Move - Move from one area that you clicked on to another area you clicked on

Attack - Attack the unit you just clicked on

Guard - Causes the Ally to stand still and watch out for enemies

And units should have a loud hurt sounds, that way if your ally is getting shot, you'll know.

Why cant it not just be like strategy games with patrol? you set some troops to patrol some other guy, they follow the guys "trail" and shoots whoever the guy shoots at.

Well im not really sure about that. Since it will be hard to control a Main character and the rest of the army. It would be easier if you can only give commands to Allies that are on your screen

What about setting comands from the begining(before you start playing the map-predifined), like selecting a bunch of units to follow you around like a team, or have a bunch of units advance while protecting you?

Perhaps make it like Rogue Spear? You have a tactical plan over the area, then you give your troops some waypoints, which can also be set that they hold at one point, then you hit some button that makes them move to the next waypoint?

The troops youll find IN the area, will just follow their own waypoint, which you would have to edit in the editor, if you want it changed.

Well there are "waypoints" and "tracks" that you can bind stuff too and control using generic triggers.
