It would be cool if you could get in a vehicle, like in renegade. was there a level in the meteor beta where you could drive a tank?

In M1 there sorta was a thing you could do to turn you into a tank... like level 1 would be "OMG!!!! RUN AND GET INTO THAT TANK!" and level 2 would be you actually in the tank... all u have to do is set the player for that level as "tank.plr" or something like that.

Ive heard that in M2, he JB has a system or somthing like that where you can walk up to a viehicle and get inside it during THAT LEVEL.

I meant to say----Have a weapon that allows you to kill a vehicle's driver, so you could enter the vehicle.

It had been cool if you could drive over enemy units and kill them. Maybe you could do that.

But remember: Don't give up the good work!!!

Well not everything actually works properly at this exact moment but here is the general idea...

[Done] The player is an object (unit) just like everyone else on the map.

[Done] The player can be assigned to any object which basically means that you can jump into a vehicle or even someone's skin (you would need to script that - script not done yet). The control/behaviour system is adjusted accordingly for each object class (car, chopper etc).

[Done] The default (start) object used by the player can be set in the Map Editor, you can use <b>any</b> of the objects within the game (no more .chr files).

[Not done just yet] It is planned that vehicles can be crewed. For example when you shoot a hummer the people inside it will "appear" with random heatlh.

Note:
Players, map sprites and units have all been merged into objects.

Oh and a quick answer.

Map objects have varied AI types. Vehicles placed on a map with "No AI" can be used freely by the player. You can set any map object's AI type.

hehe "Hey Ash, get in that enemy infantry before someone else does!!"

I suppose its possible but it would be unrealistic so youd probably want to avoid that

Will it be possible to drive friendly AI objects, like infantry in APCs?

Yes you can drive any vehicle that is not occupied.

In the Object Editor (like Race Editor in M1) you set the "vehicle" flag which determines if its drivable (so you can't drive troopers and crates!).

But how does it work.
Do you hijacking cars or do you have to take them when
they are empty, or do you have to destroy the car to
get into it and drive it?

If something is empty then you simply stand next to it and press a "use" key on your keyboard. When you want to get out you press the key again.

Ya. I hate games that you spend more time looking for buttons than actually playing.

ok call me crazy, but I use the direction buttons and the mouse aim on meteor, (ok so thats not so crazy) but I use that same thing on first person shooters too, as long as it comes with customizable controls.

Customisable controls will be added.

I like the idea of a gun which kills the driver only.

There will be a lock pick (you will need to pick one up before you can use it).

To use the lock pick you need to walk right up to a vehicle and use it. You will loose a little health in your scuffle with the driver.
