My idea is to restrict cars so that they can only turn using the left/right arrows while the up/down arrows, or acceleration and brake, are used. Basically this would achive the effect of only turnable cars while the car has motion, just like in real life. This could be taken far.ther by slowing the rotation speed of the cars (turning speed) lower in porportion to the cars actual speed. Example: Maximum speed = 80 MPH Car's MPH | Percent Speed | Turning Speed Percent | 10________|12.5%__________| 12.5%_________________| 42________|52.5%__________|52.5%__________________| Simple, but with lower speed comes lower turning speed. I think this would be very helpful, and it would make the game a lot cooler. I thinks its kind of phoney to make a car, tank, or plane turn in a circle when its not moving. You need to login to create posts in this thread. |

Except for helicopters and mechs, but most tanks can already do that. In fact, some tanks can only turn at a stop.

Yeah, the simple idea would crash tanks. Idea What about having a RealTurn option on ObjectClasses.ini? That way it could be optional. And another tool for modding!!! You need to login to create posts in this thread. |

eexactly. With a variable in the game objects INI and an option in the object type editor, this would make the game mucho better You need to login to create posts in this thread. |

Can this idea change the brakes too ?? like a mottion, with more vellocity, more time to stop the viecle like a skid !! Ifs possible, can be possible put on then some sonds of skids, crashes, running overs, and others ?????? You need to login to create posts in this thread. |

Call me nuts but don't cars actually steer more at low speeds. Surely the higher the speed the greater the turning circle, therefore the percentage table should be the other way around? The cars turning on the spot thing is really aimed at the computer controlled objects, I agree that the player controls could use refinement. Hey Mike, nag me about this! Hmmm the speed of the car should automatically control the steering speed if it was done properly but it could get complex. Ideally M2 would store the the angle that the wheels are currently pointing. If this could somehow be "touch sensitive or somethong" then the control could be really realistic. The only problem is how to do this with 2 "buttons". Perhaps the longer a steer key is held down the more the greater angle (with limits of say -30/30 deg). Then when you let go of left/right the wheels would slowly self centre back to 0 deg. Combined with variable vehicle speed (affecting the turning circle) driving around in M2 could be really good fun. Thanks for reopening this Rondom, if kinda needs some discussion and could be really great! You need to login to create posts in this thread. |

This might work, but I can't really test it out. Speed = X Turning angle per frame = Y Y = 1/X Speed X - 0 - 1 - 2 - 3 - 5 - 10 - 20 - 30 Turning Y - 0 - 1 -.5 -.3 -.2 - .1 -.05 Edited: 10 February 2006 15:15 You need to login to create posts in this thread. |
