hey--
I have been toying around with the textures in m2 and have found some information that might help every1.

Make Textures in multiples of 8.
ie.

8X8
16X16
32X32
64X64
128X128
256X256
Any thing larger than 256 will be clipped exept 512X512.

Don't you mean multiples of 2 starting from 8x8?

Thats right, if you don't make powers of 2 textures then they are indeed clipped.

Anybody making 512 by 512 textures is nuts! They must run Meteor 2 in a silly res given that they take up a whole page in the texture picker.

Nice one.

Perhaps I should make M2 automatically scale down textures that are larger than 256 by 256, that will teach you for filling our texture pickers up with single images!

Also another thing about the textures, do you think you would possibly remove our "useless" textures in the list? what I mean by that is removing the textures we never use, like the screenshot from the first M1 map, or the "pasta.pcx" Lol. And the really blurry ones that appear "offset" when they reproduce.

Pasta is good for place holders & map debugging.

A: What the heck is pasta.pcx?

B: I think the game should support 1024x1024 or higher than that too.... :p Am I nuts then?! Heh!

C: I run Meteor 2 @ 1024x768 in Accelerated DirectDraw mode.... What resolution does everyone else use?

A. Lol see for your self, make a map, select a texture and look for the one that looks like macaroni and cheese zoomed up close.

B. Yah you probably are nuts lol

C. 800x600 I think i'll need to check again

Nahh leave the old ones. There were alot of M1 tiles i never saw in the game, but i used them. The game would score higher on repetitiveness, becuase those extra textures people could play around with and such in the map editor. I actually used pasta.pcx for a replacement for bright lava :). Hey what can i say? I thought the pasta was lava at first glance and its very convincing when it has a water effect to it ^_^

Lol wow I never thought of that! Though we should lose the really blurry ones and the ones that dont repeat without looking offset. Then add some new ones, maybe a few from games like Halflife or quake, I am sure that has some good and CLEAR textures.

Oh yeah for sure.... I love the idea of using textures from other games. Also, there are free texture packs out there on many MOD-makers's webpages/websites that would be awesome here. As for games, I'd recommend DooM, DooM 2, Strife, Heretic, Hexen, Hexen 2, Age Of Empires 1 & 2 (+ Expansions), Total Annihilation, Half-Life, Half-Life 2, Unreal, Unreal 2, Iron Storm, Daikatana, SiN, etc.....
